below are a few instructions to look over.
septic system
Properly Dispose of WasteWhether you flush it down the toilet, grind it in the garbage disposal, or pour it down the sink, shower, or bath, everything that goes down the drain ends up in the septic system. What goes down the drain affects how well the septic system works.
Toilets aren’t trash cans! The septic system is not a trash can. An easy rule of thumb: Do not flush anything besides human waste and toilet paper. Never flush:
Cooking grease or oilNon-flushable wipes, such as baby wipes or other wet wipesPhotographic solutionsFeminine hygiene productsCondomsDental flossDiapersCigarette buttsCoffee groundsCat litterPaper towelsPharmaceuticalsHousehold chemicals like gasoline, oil, pesticides, antifreeze, and paint or paint thinners
Think at the sink! The septic system contains a collection of living organisms that digest and treat household waste. Pouring toxins down the drain can kill these organisms and harm the septic system. Whether you are at the kitchen sink, bathtub, or utility sink:
Avoid chemical drain openers for a clogged drain. Instead, use boiling water or a drain snake.Never pour cooking oil or grease down the drain.Never pour oil-based paints, solvents, or large volumes of toxic cleaners down the drain. Even latex paint waste should be minimized.

ben franklin stove
The Ben Franklin Stove is a fully functional wood burning stove. Make sure the control lever is open before lighting. Place the wood on the grate, making sure there is enough air able to circulate around the wood. Using one of the fire torches in the small pantry closet to the right of the stove, light the small pieces of wood or fire starter. Once lit, close the door but leave slightly ajar for about 5 minutes. This will get the fire going. After the fire is established close the door all the way. Should you want to add more wood, put on the wood fire gloves, stored behind the stove just in case anything falls out of the stove when you open the door. Insert the additional wood and close the door. Once you have the fire to temp you can adjust the control knobs on front of doors to let more or less air in to control the fire. The fan will automatically turn on and off to control the fire. There is additional wood in the storage box on the deck. If you purchase additional wood from the store please only select hard woods to use in the Ben Franklin, otherwise it can get very messy. Thank you

outdoor wood burning fireplace
The outdoor wood burning fireplace puts out a lot of heat and is wonderful on a cool night on the deck. There is wood in the storage container next to the fireplace. Please no big blazes. The area is full on timber and we want to keep it safe. Once you have the fire going, please close the screens so nothing falls out while the fire is lit. To build a nice fire, see the beginning of the video posted in the "Ben Franklin Stove" section. He does a wonderful job explaining how to lay the wood to create a good base for the fire.
trash day
Trash pick up day is Friday by 7:00AM. If you are able, please take trash can to the other side of the street for pick-up. Thank you
